Welcome to Michigan State University. It is our hope that your life at MSU will be fulfilling and successful, now and in the future. Each August, we offer an orientation for all tenure-system faculty, fixed-term faculty, and academic staff. This program will give you a lay of the land, acquaint you with others in your peer cohort, and give you a network of resources for your support.
The 2020 New Faculty and Academic Staff Orientation has several parts:
- Asynchronous Information Overview: These modules provide essential information to aid you in a successful transition to Michigan State University. This information includes helpful resources from a number of campus offices as well as important policies and procedures. All materials can be found within the New Faculty and Academic Staff Orientation D2L site.
- Synchronous Online Program on August 18, 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: This live online session was recorded click here to access. This session included a panel discussion that focused on MSU culture and processes (going beyond the information you learned in the D2L modules).
- Virtual Information Fair on August 18, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: During the Virtual Information Fair, new academics had the opportunity to learn about many MSU offices and resources. Human Resources representatives were available to answer questions about benefits. MSU Federal Credit Union representatives were also available to answer questions about banking, mortgages, and other financial matters.
- Follow-Up Opportunities: Where possible these sessions were recorded and information can be found within the follow-up opportunities section within the New Faculty and Academic Staff Orientation D2L site. Drop-in dates will be available once the semester starts for you to sit for a complimentary professional photo for your portfolio. Also, various units will provide supplemental information and resources or offer workshops as the new academic year begins. We will share information about such opportunities here.
