Taking the “Taboo” out of Retirement: Reimagining Later Academic Life

This symposium on later Academic Life will be held on March 22, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in room B106/107 in The James B. Henry Center for Executive Development located at 3535 Forest Road, Lansing, MI 48910. Our goal is to identify strategies to support senior and retired faculty members and administrators and utilize more effectively their experience, skill, and wisdom.  The symposium will review the forces driving this issue on university campuses and introduce model programs and policies peer institutions have implemented. Participants will consider innovative approaches MSU can employ to enhance the later academic career as a thoughtfully-planned, productive, and fulfilling stage of professional life - a stage that benefits the university community as well as the individual. We invite participation from faculty and academic staff members, academic leaders, such as deans and department chairs, human resource professionals, and others with an interest in work and careers.
This event is a collaboration between the Academic Advancement Network, The College of Education, and The WorkLife Office.
We have gathered a set of resource materials to supplement the symposium.  We invite you to explore the resource materials below.
